Farmin' Announces New Urban Foods Market

Wilmington, NC -

Wilmington, NC – Farmin’ Brands, Wilmington’s leading locally-sourced food purveyor, is pleased to announce its one-of-a-kind urban food market slated for Wilmington’s historic Downtown district.
Dubbed, “Farmin’ On Front,” this unique concept store is scheduled to open summer of this year and will take over the 6,000 square foot space long tenanted by Second Time Around right across from the post office at 143 N. Front Street.

“We are Back!” boasted Farmin’ President Ben Long. “We’ve traveled many miles studying how similar urban markets accomplish smaller footprint, big impact models to bring a special shopping experience to downtown Wilmington; one that rivals comparative markets of Charleston and Savannah.

Community leaders and residents have long advocated the need for a downtown food market. Downtown resident and business owner Lauren Cardwell is excited for the news: "This is huge for downtown residents! One of the perks of living downtown is walkability so I am stoked to be able to walk or ride my bike to pick up fresh produce, meats, whatever I need during the week. The fact that it's locally sourced is even better."

“We’ve had our eyes on Downtown Wilmington for a while now. With so many households not having access to quality market foods for their kitchens/families, it’s a perfect pairing for our new concept store” asserted Farmin’ Director of Marketing/Outreach Randall Heath. “With our network of incredible food producers and artisans, our concept for championing local foods was a natural fit for downtown Wilmington,” Heath continued.

Speaking to the new location, Long added: “This is going to be an intricate project; we’ve assembled a great team to bring the vision to fruition. We are excited to work with Clark Hipp of Hipp Architecture & Development, Jennifer Kraner of Big Sky [Interior] Designs, Carlton Fisher of Coastal Realty, Mayor Saffo and all of his team and Ed Wolverton of WDI. We are on track to submit our market’s designs soon and will be ‘breaking ground’ in the upcoming weeks.”

Farmin’ will host an event later this morning to answer media questions regarding the Farmin’ on Front project. See the following page for more information on the event. Details about Farmin’ On Front’s progress will be released on a regular basis as the opening date nears.
